New Dads Group
Group Therapy for Men
A virtual men’s group for support, paternal insight, baby hacks, relationship maintenance, and staying sane in early parenthood.
What to Expect
Aim Psych’s weekly virtual group for new dads offers a space for anyone who identifies as a new dad (including soon-to-be dads) to process emotions and fears by connecting with others going through the same transition. It is a safe space to say the things you can’t say anywhere else.
Expert Facilitation
Led by a skilled facilitator who knows when to guide, when to step back, and how to deepen the work.
Camaraderie
Connect with other dads navigating similar challenges, with support you can count on week after week.
Empathy
Strengthen emotional awareness and communication, and practice staying present in difficult conversations. You don’t need to prove yourself or justify what you feel.
Bring the full range of your experience as a father, even the feelings you don’t say out loud. That can include resentment or anger toward your child or partner, regret about becoming a father, or the urge to escape.
Authenticity
Meet Alex
Alex is straightforward, dynamic, instinctual, and candid. He specializes in men’s addiction and recovery, EMDR, fatherhood, and parenting dynamics, and the “worried well,” including high-achieving and creative men who may look fine on the outside but feel underlying dissatisfaction, frustration, or pain. He is skilled in addressing anger, intimacy, and sexuality, anxiety, career and identity concerns, and the impact of life transitions on a man’s mental health and sense of masculinity.
Group Facilitator
Alex Douglas, LCSW
This group is open to anyone who identifies as a new dad. That includes expecting fathers, those navigating infertility, and those becoming a parent through adoption, step-parenting, or other paths.
You don’t need to fit a stereotypical image of fatherhood to belong here. The group welcomes all male and masculine-identified parents, including those who identify as LGBTQIA+.
What happens during the New Dads Group?
Each week, this virtual meeting gives dads room to process what’s on their minds in real time, along with facilitator guidance and group support. You can expect space for honest conversation, practical perspective, and connection with other fathers who understand. Topics may include:
Managing overload (self-care and distress tolerance)
Redefining expectations of fatherhood
Co-parenting and division of labor
Repair after conflict
Trust, infidelity, and rebuilding connection
Asking for support (and offering it)
Becoming a father without losing yourself
Work–life balance and boundaries
The transition from partners to parents
Bonding with your child
How your own experience of being fathered shapes you now
